In 2022, the Ukrainian photo camera market decreased by -64.9% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, showed resilient growth. Photo camera consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

The exports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, photo camera exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 1,545% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Latvia (X units) was the main destination for photo camera exports from Ukraine, with a 23% share of total exports. Moreover, photo camera exports to Latvia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Austria (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Moldova (X units), with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Latvia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (0.0% per year) and Moldova (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Latvia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for photographic (other than cinematographic) cameras exports from Ukraine, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hungary ($X), with a 1.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with less than 0.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Latvia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (-5.7% per year) and Austria (-30.7% per year).

In 2022, the average photo camera export price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 1,130% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a modest expansion. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+47.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Ukraine

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of photographic (other than cinematographic) cameras decreased by -66.9% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 268% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, photo camera imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

China (X units) and Thailand (X units) were the main suppliers of photo camera imports to Ukraine.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +50.7%).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of photographic (other than cinematographic) cameras to Ukraine, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 30% share of total imports.

The average photo camera import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a deep setback.
