The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the production volume increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, exports of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass from Ukraine skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 270% compared with the year before. Overall, exports, however, showed a precipitous slump. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pigments, opacifiers and colours exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 251%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Spain (X tons) was the main destination for pigments, opacifiers and colours exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, pigments, opacifiers and colours exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Armenia (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Russia (X kg), with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Spain stood at +36.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Armenia (0.0% per year) and Russia (-46.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for pigments, opacifiers and colours exported from Ukraine were Spain ($X), Armenia ($X) and Russia ($X), together comprising 100% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Spain, with a CAGR of +35.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average pigments, opacifiers and colours export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -62.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 105%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+37.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2022, supplies from abroad of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass decreased by -48.4% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pigments, opacifiers and colours imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The Netherlands (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of pigments, opacifiers and colours imports to Ukraine, together accounting for 82% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +88.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pigments, opacifiers and colours for ceramics, enamelling or glass to Ukraine, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Czech Republic totaled +70.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-23.3% per year) and Germany (+0.1% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 27%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+65.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
