Rice Bran Market Size in Ukraine
In 2021, the Ukrainian rice bran market increased by 8.9% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. For the fourth year in a row, Ukraine recorded decline in overseas shipments of rice bran, which decreased by -16.7% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 127%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rice bran exports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons) was the main destination for rice bran exports from Ukraine, with a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel (X tons), with a 0.7% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to China amounted to +1.8%.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for rice bran exports from Ukraine, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 0.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to China stood at +2.0%.
Export Prices by Country
The average rice bran export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 44%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Myanmar (+39.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Rice Bran Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2021, supplies from abroad of rice bran increased by 3,171% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, rice bran imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 462%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Belarus (X tons) was the main supplier of rice bran to Ukraine, accounting for a 96% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland (X tons), with a 2.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belarus totaled +14,337.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+77.4% per year) and Finland (+28.2% per year).
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rice bran to Ukraine, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with a 17% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Belarus stood at +1,428.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Finland (+29.9% per year) and Poland (+54.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average rice bran import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -87.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
