Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 112%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, self-propelled railway coach exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 513% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then declined notably in the following year.

Egypt (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main destinations of self-propelled railway coach exports from Ukraine.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +49.8%).

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 201% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (-3.6%).

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, purchases abroad of railway or tramway coaches (self-propelled) increased by 264% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decline. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, self-propelled railway coach imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons), Latvia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main suppliers of self-propelled railway coach imports to Ukraine, together comprising 64% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +73.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of railway or tramway coaches (self-propelled) to Ukraine, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 1.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Russia amounted to +39.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-8.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (-27.1% per year).

The average self-propelled railway coach import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -20.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
