From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Panama (+1,566.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2022, overseas purchases of sewing thread of man-made filaments or staple fibers decreased by -16.4% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports saw a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sewing thread imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

China (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of sewing thread imports to Ukraine, with a combined 90% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +11.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sewing thread of man-made filaments or staple fibers to Ukraine, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at -2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+4.6% per year) and Germany (-2.1% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
