Soups Market Size in Ukraine

The Ukrainian soups market totaled $X in 2021, growing by 4.5% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of soups and broths, when their volume decreased by -42.8% to X tons. Overall, total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 27%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, soups exports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for soups exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, soups exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Kazakhstan (X tons), with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia totaled +3.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+46.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (+95.1% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for soups and broths exports from Ukraine, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia totaled -2.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-4.5% per year) and France (+133.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average soups export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, the amount of soups and broths imported into Ukraine surged to X tons, rising by 25% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, soups imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of soups to Ukraine, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, soups imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Croatia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Czech Republic (X tons), with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at +29.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Croatia (+21.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (+2.8% per year).

In value terms, Spain ($X), Croatia ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) appeared to be the largest soups suppliers to Ukraine, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Germany, China, Russia, Estonia, Hungary and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Estonia, with a CAGR of +43.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average soups import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -12.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
