The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, preserved sweet corn exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 627% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Hungary (X tons) was the main destination for preserved sweet corn exports from Ukraine, with a 93% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), with a 1.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Hungary stood at +104.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (-17.6% per year) and Belarus (-0.1% per year).
In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the key foreign market for sweet corn prepared or preserved exports from Ukraine, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 1.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Hungary amounted to +142.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+3.9% per year) and Kazakhstan (-18.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average preserved sweet corn export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+18.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Sweet Corn Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2022, overseas purchases of sweet corn prepared or preserved decreased by -7.2% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved sweet corn imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Hungary (X tons) constituted the largest preserved sweet corn supplier to Ukraine, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved sweet corn imports from Hungary exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), threefold. Moldova (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 20% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Hungary totaled -2.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+45.2% per year) and Moldova (+50.1% per year).
In value terms, Hungary ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sweet corn prepared or preserved to Ukraine, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Hungary was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+46.0% per year) and Moldova (+51.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average preserved sweet corn import price amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 15%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
