The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +15.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, wood tool exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +100.4% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) was the main destination for wood tool exports from Ukraine, with a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, wood tool exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), threefold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany amounted to +1.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+10.9% per year) and France (+31.7% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for tools of wood exports from Ukraine, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 7.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to +3.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+12.3% per year) and France (+34.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average wood tool export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+23.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wood Tool Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2021, supplies from abroad of tools of wood increased by 71% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports posted a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 133%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wood tool imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 137% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest wood tool supplier to Ukraine, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, wood tool imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), threefold. Austria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +50.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (-10.9% per year) and Austria (+9.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest wood tool suppliers to Ukraine were China ($X), Poland ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 86% share of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +37.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average wood tool import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -13.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+19.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
