Sportswear Market Size in Ukraine
For the fourth year in a row, the Ukrainian sportswear market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 10% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption saw a perceptible setback. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Sportswear Production in Ukraine
In value terms, sportswear production declined modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 104%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Ukraine
In 2021, shipments abroad of track suits, ski suits and swimwear decreased by -5.6% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, total exports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -30.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 46%. The exports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sportswear exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -21.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Italy (X units), Germany (X units) and Poland (X units) were the main destinations of sportswear exports from Ukraine, together comprising 83% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Moldova, Denmark and Russia, which together accounted for a further 15%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +115.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for track suits, ski suits and swimwear exports from Ukraine, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 27% share of total exports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+8.2% per year) and Lithuania (+115.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average sportswear export price amounted to $X per unit, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 17%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sportswear Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2021, purchases abroad of track suits, ski suits and swimwear decreased by -6.4% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports showed a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 118% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sportswear imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 66%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China (X units), Turkey (X units) and Italy (X units) were the main suppliers of sportswear imports to Ukraine, with a combined 81% share of total imports. Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 10%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +96.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sportswear suppliers to Ukraine were Turkey ($X), China ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together comprising 72% of total imports. These countries were followed by Sri Lanka, Italy, Myanmar and Uzbekistan, which together accounted for a further 10%.
Myanmar, with a CAGR of +82.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average sportswear import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 31% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 83% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while the price for Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
