In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in the Ukrainian market for uncooked pasta (not containing eggs), when its value decreased by -0.5% to $X. In general, consumption saw a pronounced contraction. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +73.5% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +75.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Venezuela (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) were the main destinations of uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) exports from Ukraine, together accounting for 88% of total exports. Lithuania, Turkey, Belarus, Gambia, Georgia and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.5%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +98.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) exported from Ukraine were Venezuela ($X), Moldova ($X) and Belarus ($X), together accounting for 80% of total exports.

In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+22.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After five years of growth, overseas purchases of uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) decreased by -5.7% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 38%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) to Ukraine, with a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), twofold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy totaled +13.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+25.2% per year) and Poland (+19.9% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) to Ukraine, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy amounted to +11.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+18.7% per year) and Turkey (+21.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average import price for uncooked pasta (not containing eggs) stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
