Belgium (X tons) was the main destination for wool exports from Ukraine, with a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, wool exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Poland (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Belgium stood at +70.9%.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the key foreign market for wool exports from Ukraine, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Belgium totaled +62.6%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average wool export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -15.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 31%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+44.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Wool Imports
Imports into Ukraine
In 2022, approx. X tons of wool were imported into Ukraine; with a decrease of -55.3% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 109% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wool imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 97% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, New Zealand (X tons) constituted the largest wool supplier to Ukraine, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, wool imports from New Zealand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belgium (X tons), with a 20% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from New Zealand stood at +40.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+4.0% per year) and Belgium (+17.4% per year).
In value terms, New Zealand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wool to Ukraine, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from New Zealand stood at +29.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+4.7% per year) and Belgium (+5.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average wool import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 132% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a slight increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
