Cotton Fabric Market Size in Ukraine

The Ukrainian cotton fabric market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after six years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, overseas shipments of woven fabrics of cotton were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cotton fabric exports rose to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 4.8%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tons) was the main destination for cotton fabric exports from Ukraine, accounting for a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, cotton fabric exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belarus (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 3.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Russia totaled +2.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (-18.6% per year) and Germany (+6.0% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for woven fabrics of cotton exports from Ukraine, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 4.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia amounted to -1.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+5.4% per year) and the UK (-13.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average cotton fabric export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -17.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 6.3% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lithuania (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Ukraine

In 2021, overseas purchases of woven fabrics of cotton increased by 2.1% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after four years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton fabric imports reached $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) were the main suppliers of cotton fabric imports to Ukraine, with a combined 53% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belarus, Germany, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Moldova, Italy and Poland, which together accounted for a further 36%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +18.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Germany ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the largest cotton fabric suppliers to Ukraine, together accounting for 47% of total imports. Pakistan, Turkey, Italy, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Poland and Moldova lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +16.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average cotton fabric import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 3.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 7.3% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
