In value terms, bedspread exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +46.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Oman (X units), Kenya (X units) and Mauritania (X units) were the main destinations of bedspread exports from the United Arab Emirates, together accounting for 42% of total exports. These countries were followed by Rwanda, Senegal, Gambia, India, South Africa and Niger, which together accounted for a further 42%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +184.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Oman ($X) remains the key foreign market for bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) exports from the United Arab Emirates, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Kenya, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Oman totaled +12.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (+20.3% per year) and Kenya (+28.1% per year).

In 2021, the average bedspread export price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 83% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 120% against the previous year. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 45%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, India (X units) constituted the largest supplier of bedspread to the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, bedspread imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X units), with a 6.6% share.
