The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 97% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Oman (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) were the main destinations of wooden joinery and carpentry exports from the United Arab Emirates, together comprising 33% of total exports. The UK, India, Germany, Gambia, Finland, Israel, Denmark and Kenya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +285.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wooden joinery and carpentry exported from the United Arab Emirates were the UK ($X), Oman ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), together accounting for 39% of total exports. These countries were followed by Kuwait, Germany, Finland, India, Denmark, Israel, Kenya and Gambia, which together accounted for a further 29%.
Denmark, with a CAGR of +399.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wooden joinery and carpentry export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Gambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+34.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates
In 2021, purchases abroad of builders' joinery and carpentry of wood was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 54% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wooden joinery and carpentry imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest wooden joinery and carpentry supplier to the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 17% share of total imports. Moreover, wooden joinery and carpentry imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold. Portugal (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to -1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+28.9% per year) and Portugal (-9.1% per year).
In value terms, China ($X), Italy ($X) and Turkey ($X) appeared to be the largest wooden joinery and carpentry suppliers to the United Arab Emirates, with a combined 28% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Portugal, Vietnam, Austria, Germany, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, which together accounted for a further 21%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +43.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wooden joinery and carpentry import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
