The canary seed market in the United Arab Emirates was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. In general, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 270%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, canary seed imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 166% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest canary seed supplier to the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, canary seed imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Canada (X tons), ninefold. Australia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.6% share.
