In 2021, the other cereals market in the United Arab Emirates increased by 81% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In 2021, the amount of other cerealses exported from the United Arab Emirates dropped dramatically to X tons, waning by -50% against the year before. In general, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 464% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, other cereals exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. Exports by Country
Oman (X tons) was the main destination for other cereals exports from the United Arab Emirates, with a 80% share of total exports. Moreover, other cereals exports to Oman exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Maldives (X tons), with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Oman stood at +20.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+15.9% per year) and Maldives (+26.4% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for other cereals exported from the United Arab Emirates were Oman ($X), Maldives ($X) and Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), together comprising 88% of total exports. Congo lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 0.8%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Congo, with a CAGR of +79.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average other cereals export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -11.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 56%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Maldives ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Maldives (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates
In 2021, purchases abroad of other cerealses increased by 1% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 340%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, other cereals imports shrank to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 212% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Peru (X tons), the United States (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of other cereals imports to the United Arab Emirates, together comprising 84% of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Italy, Bolivia, the Netherlands and Ethiopia, which together accounted for a further 13%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +202.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Peru ($X) and India ($X) appeared to be the largest other cereals suppliers to the United Arab Emirates, with a combined 85% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, the Netherlands, Bolivia, Poland and Ethiopia, which together accounted for a further 11%.
Among the main suppliers, Poland, with a CAGR of +216.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average other cereals import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -13.9% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, other cereals import price decreased by -14.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tanzania (+16.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
