Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 260%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, totaliser exports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 363%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell significantly in the following year.

Maldives (X units), Oman (X units) and Seychelles (X units) were the main destinations of totaliser exports from the United Arab Emirates, with a combined 86% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +25.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Oman ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for continuous and discontinuous totalisers exports from the United Arab Emirates, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nigeria ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Maldives, with a 16% share.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates

In 2021, the amount of continuous and discontinuous totalisers imported into the United Arab Emirates soared to X units, increasing by 280% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 394%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, totaliser imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 166% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United States (X units) constituted the largest supplier of totaliser to the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 25% share of total imports. Moreover, totaliser imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X units), threefold. South Korea (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States stood at +10.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (0.0% per year) and South Korea (-10.5% per year).

In value terms, the largest totaliser suppliers to the United Arab Emirates were Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 42% share of total imports. These countries were followed by India, Spain, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 24%.

Among the main suppliers, Spain, with a CAGR of +44.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average totaliser import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -50.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 226% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
