In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the feldspar market in the United Arab Emirates, when its value increased by 114% to $X. Overall, consumption continues to indicate pronounced growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 36%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, feldspar exports plummeted to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a precipitous decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 29%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Bangladesh (X tons) was the main destination for feldspar exports from the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, feldspar exports to Bangladesh exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Iran (X tons), more than tenfold. Bahrain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 1.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Bangladesh stood at -41.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iran (-45.8% per year) and Bahrain (-60.0% per year).

In value terms, Bangladesh ($X) remains the key foreign market for feldspar exports from the United Arab Emirates, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iran ($X), with a 5.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Bahrain, with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Bangladesh stood at -30.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iran (-43.6% per year) and Bahrain (-56.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average feldspar export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 51% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a resilient expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, feldspar imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a perceptible expansion. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Iran (X tons) constituted the largest feldspar supplier to the United Arab Emirates, with a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, feldspar imports from Iran exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (X tons), with a 4.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Iran stood at +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+5.8% per year) and Turkey (-8.0% per year).

In value terms, Iran ($X), India ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the largest feldspar suppliers to the United Arab Emirates, together accounting for 70% of total imports. Saudi Arabia and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.7%.
