Exports from the United Arab Emirates
In 2022, exports of ghee from the United Arab Emirates surged to X tons, growing by 104% on the previous year's figure. Overall, total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ghee exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 140% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Tanzania (X tons) was the main destination for ghee exports from the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, ghee exports to Tanzania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bahrain (X tons), twofold. Australia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Tanzania totaled +33.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bahrain (+12.1% per year) and Australia (+5.0% per year).
In value terms, Bahrain ($X), Australia ($X) and Jordan ($X) constituted the largest markets for ghee exported from the United Arab Emirates worldwide, together comprising 93% of total exports. These countries were followed by Tanzania, which accounted for a further 3.4%.
Tanzania, with a CAGR of +40.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average ghee export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ghee export price increased by +3.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 125%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+26.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates
In 2022, overseas purchases of ghee increased by 16% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ghee imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.7% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 51%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
New Zealand (X tons), India (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of ghee imports to the United Arab Emirates, together accounting for 87% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +15.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest ghee suppliers to the United Arab Emirates were India ($X), New Zealand ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 84% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +21.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average ghee import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 9% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ghee import price increased by +19.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for New Zealand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
