Exports from the United Arab Emirates
In 2022, approx. X tons of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons were exported from the United Arab Emirates; with an increase of 78% on the year before. In general, exports enjoyed a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 279%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 128%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
India (X tons) was the main destination for halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports from the United Arab Emirates, with a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to India amounted to +17.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+73.9% per year) and Singapore (+119.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exported from the United Arab Emirates were India ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Singapore ($X), together comprising 74% of total exports.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +70.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average halogenated hydrocarbon derivative export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -57.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 251%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons, when their volume increased by 26% to X tons. Overall, imports showed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 82%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of halogenated hydrocarbon derivative to the United Arab Emirates, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +5.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+10.0% per year) and the United States (+0.3% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons to the United Arab Emirates, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 9.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+4.6% per year) and the United States (-4.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average halogenated hydrocarbon derivative import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -25.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
