Tanzania (X units), India (X units) and Rwanda (X units) were the main destinations of hat and headgear exports from the United Arab Emirates, together accounting for 36% of total exports. The UK, Italy, Nigeria, Niger, Bahrain, France, the United States, Hong Kong SAR, Zambia and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +142.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the UK ($X), Italy ($X) and the United States ($X) constituted the largest markets for hat and headgear exported from the United Arab Emirates worldwide, together accounting for 36% of total exports. France, Hong Kong SAR, Rwanda, Tanzania, the Netherlands, India, Niger, Bahrain, Nigeria and Zambia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Hong Kong SAR, with a CAGR of +114.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average hat and headgear export price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -50.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 52%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Zambia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+46.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates
In 2022, the amount of hats and other headgear imported into the United Arab Emirates skyrocketed to X units, jumping by 56% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hat and headgear imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest hat and headgear supplier to the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, hat and headgear imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X units), more than tenfold. Turkey (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-4.7% per year) and Turkey (+6.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of hats and other headgear to the United Arab Emirates, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 2.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 1.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to -6.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-8.6% per year) and Turkey (-1.5% per year).
