After three years of growth, the honey market in the United Arab Emirates decreased by -7.7% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate strong growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates
Honey exports from the United Arab Emirates surged to X tons in 2022, jumping by 31% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 168% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, honey exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 126% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main destinations of honey exports from the United Arab Emirates, together accounting for 72% of total exports. Jordan, Bahrain and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Jordan (with a CAGR of +139.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Jordan ($X) were the largest markets for honey exported from the United Arab Emirates worldwide, together comprising 67% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Jordan, with a CAGR of +118.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average honey export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -2.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 63% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+12.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Honey Imports
Imports into the United Arab Emirates
In 2022, overseas purchases of honey decreased by -5.8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, honey imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 45%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of honey to the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, honey imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from India stood at +33.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+6.9% per year) and Germany (+2.0% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of honey to the United Arab Emirates, comprising 24% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with an 8.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from India amounted to +32.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+3.8% per year) and Hungary (+59.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average honey import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 7.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
