In 2022, overseas shipments of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -11.1% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 46%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plastic household articles exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +36.9% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Tanzania (X tons) was the main destination for plastic household articles exports from the United Arab Emirates, with a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic household articles exports to Tanzania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Bahrain (X tons), with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Tanzania totaled +18.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+47.9% per year) and Bahrain (-0.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for plastic household articles exported from the United Arab Emirates were Tanzania ($X), Jordan ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 31% share of total exports. Bahrain, Egypt, the United States, France, Rwanda, India and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Finland, with a CAGR of +119.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average plastic household articles export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics, when their volume decreased by -11.3% to X tons. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic household articles imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 72% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest plastic household articles supplier to the United Arab Emirates, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic household articles imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X tons), with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +12.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+29.3% per year) and India (+1.9% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of household articles and toilet articles of plastics to the United Arab Emirates, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 4.7% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 4.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +20.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+19.7% per year) and India (+2.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average plastic household articles import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
