The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 683%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In 2022, the average lemon and lime yield in the United Arab Emirates shrank slightly to X tons per ha, approximately reflecting the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 311% against the previous year. Exports from the United Arab Emirates
Lemon and lime exports from the United Arab Emirates reduced dramatically to X tons in 2022, dropping by -19.3% compared with the year before. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 892% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, lemon and lime exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 420%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
India (X tons) was the main destination for lemon and lime exports from the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, lemon and lime exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Singapore (X tons), fivefold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to India amounted to +100.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+286.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+46.0% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), India ($X) and Bahrain ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for lemon and lime exported from the United Arab Emirates worldwide, together comprising 51% of total exports. The Netherlands, Singapore and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
Singapore, with a CAGR of +373.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average lemon and lime export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 160% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+22.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of lemons and limes decreased by -8.3% to X tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, lemon and lime imports declined modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest lemon and lime supplier to the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, lemon and lime imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Africa amounted to +7.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+18.0% per year) and India (-14.0% per year).
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lemons and limes to the United Arab Emirates, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from South Africa stood at +7.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+12.8% per year) and Egypt (+26.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average lemon and lime import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 27%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
