In 2021, the lime market in the United Arab Emirates decreased by -52.3% to $X, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption recorded a deep slump. Imports into the United Arab Emirates
In 2021, the amount of lime imported into the United Arab Emirates shrank significantly to X tons, waning by -24.6% compared with the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 111% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, lime imports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 186% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Oman (X tons) constituted the largest lime supplier to the United Arab Emirates, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, lime imports from Oman exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Saudi Arabia (X tons), more than tenfold. India (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Oman stood at -1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Saudi Arabia (-39.5% per year) and India (+16.3% per year).
In value terms, Oman ($X) constituted the largest supplier of lime to the United Arab Emirates, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 9.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Oman was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+36.2% per year) and the United States (+3.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average lime import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 71% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
