After three years of growth, the needles, catheters, cannulae market in the United Arab Emirates decreased by -11% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, showed a resilient increase. In 2021, overseas shipments of needles, catheters, cannulae were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 71% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, needles, catheters, cannulae exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Oman (X units) was the main destination for needles, catheters, cannulae exports from the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, needles, catheters, cannulae exports to Oman exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Zambia (X units), fourfold. Mozambique (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Oman stood at +23.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Zambia (+67.4% per year) and Mozambique (+59.3% per year).

Among the main countries of destination, Seychelles, with a CAGR of +120.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 86% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, needles, catheters, cannulae imports fell to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
