The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 238% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-wheat flour exports declined significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Oman (X tons) was the main destination for non-wheat flour exports from the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, non-wheat flour exports to Oman exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kuwait (X tons), threefold. Ethiopia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Oman totaled -6.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kuwait (+36.3% per year) and Ethiopia (+17.7% per year).
In value terms, Oman ($X), Ethiopia ($X) and Kuwait ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for non-wheat flour exported from the United Arab Emirates worldwide, with a combined 79% share of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +33.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average non-wheat flour export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 37% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 44% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates
In 2021, imports of non-wheat flours into the United Arab Emirates soared to X tons, picking up by 53% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 67%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-wheat flour to the United Arab Emirates, with a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, non-wheat flour imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Oman (X tons), with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from India amounted to -3.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+40.9% per year) and Oman (+11.4% per year).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of non-wheat flours to the United Arab Emirates, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 3.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 3.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from India was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-13.5% per year) and Germany (-3.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average non-wheat flour import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -6.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
