The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 107% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for organic surface active agent exports from the United Arab Emirates, with a 28% share of total exports. Moreover, organic surface active agent exports to Saudi Arabia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Sudan (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Egypt (X tons), with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Saudi Arabia totaled +40.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Sudan (+7.2% per year) and Egypt (+36.1% per year).

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for organic surface active agents exports from the United Arab Emirates, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Sudan ($X), with a 5.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Saudi Arabia amounted to +52.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Sudan (+8.7% per year) and Egypt (+27.8% per year).

In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +101.7% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, organic surface active agent imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +43.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

India (X tons), China (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of organic surface active agent imports to the United Arab Emirates, together accounting for 58% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Free Zones, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Greece, France, the UK, South Korea and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 19%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +25.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest organic surface active agent suppliers to the United Arab Emirates were India ($X), China ($X) and the United States ($X), together comprising 54% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, the UK, Malaysia, Italy, France, Saudi Arabia, Greece, South Korea, Singapore and Free Zones, which together accounted for a further 18%.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +20.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average organic surface active agent import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Free Zones ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
