Exports from the United Arab Emirates

In 2022, the amount of sparkling wine exported from the United Arab Emirates contracted markedly to X litres, reducing by -47.9% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 143% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X litres in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sparkling wine exports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 144%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Rwanda (X litres), Tanzania (X litres) and Ireland (X litres) were the main destinations of sparkling wine exports from the United Arab Emirates, with a combined 44% share of total exports. Belgium, India, the UK and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +208.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), Ireland ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for sparkling wine exported from the United Arab Emirates worldwide, together accounting for 43% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Belgium, with a CAGR of +88.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sparkling wine export price stood at $X per litre in 2022, jumping by 88% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 129% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per litre in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Tanzania ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X litres of sparkling wine were imported into the United Arab Emirates; which is down by -17% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 120% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sparkling wine imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate temperate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 81%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

France (X litres), Italy (X litres) and Australia (X litres) were the main suppliers of sparkling wine imports to the United Arab Emirates, with a combined 44% share of total imports. Spain, the UK, South Africa, the Netherlands and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +15.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sparkling wine to the United Arab Emirates, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 5.3% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 2.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from France totaled -4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+11.8% per year) and the Netherlands (+16.3% per year).

In 2022, the average sparkling wine import price amounted to $X per litre, with a decrease of -5.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per litre in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per litre), while the price for South Africa ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
