After three years of decline, purchases abroad of synthetic rubber increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, synthetic rubber imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 106% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Germany (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of synthetic rubber imports to the United Arab Emirates, together accounting for 28% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +51.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest synthetic rubber suppliers to the United Arab Emirates were China ($X), Germany ($X) and India ($X), together comprising 27% of total imports.

China, with a CAGR of +50.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction.
