Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 660% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X litres in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate notable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 485% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Oman (X litres), Kuwait (X litres) and Niger (X litres) were the main destinations of non-mineral or non-aerated water exports from the United Arab Emirates, together comprising 91% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Niger (with a CAGR of +267.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Oman ($X), Kuwait ($X) and Niger ($X) constituted the largest markets for non-mineral or non-aerated water exported from the United Arab Emirates worldwide, together comprising 83% of total exports.
Niger, with a CAGR of +228.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-mineral or non-aerated water export price amounted to $X per litre, increasing by 63% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 83% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Oman ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+18.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into the United Arab Emirates
In 2021, the amount of non-mineral or non-aerated waters imported into the United Arab Emirates contracted notably to X litres, shrinking by -24.2% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 48%. Imports peaked at X litres in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X litres) constituted the largest non-mineral or non-aerated water supplier to the United Arab Emirates, with a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Norway (X litres), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Oman (X litres), with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey totaled +3.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Norway (+1.1% per year) and Oman (+61.2% per year).
In value terms, the largest non-mineral or non-aerated water suppliers to the United Arab Emirates were Turkey ($X), Norway ($X) and Iceland ($X), together accounting for 80% of total imports. These countries were followed by China and Oman, which together accounted for a further 3.6%.
Among the main suppliers, Oman, with a CAGR of +53.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average non-mineral or non-aerated water import price amounted to $X per litre, picking up by 34% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per litre), while the price for Oman ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
