Wheat Market Size in the United Arab Emirates

The wheat market in the United Arab Emirates declined significantly to $X in 2022, which is down by -15.3% against the previous year. Mozambique (X tons) was the main destination for wheat exports from the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, wheat exports to Mozambique exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Zimbabwe (X tons), sevenfold.

In 2022, the amount of wheat imported into the United Arab Emirates dropped modestly to X tons, with a decrease of -3.8% on 2021 figures. In general, imports recorded a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wheat imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 31%. In 2022, India (X tons) constituted the largest wheat supplier to the United Arab Emirates, accounting for a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, wheat imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Romania (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Canada (X tons), with a 14% share.

In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wheat to the United Arab Emirates, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Canada, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from India amounted to +1.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Romania (+21.0% per year) and Canada (-6.3% per year).
