The exports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild slump. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

India (X tons) was the main destination for artificial and colloidal graphite exports from the UK, with a 32% share of total exports. Moreover, artificial and colloidal graphite exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), threefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to India amounted to +38.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-3.9% per year) and China (+5.6% per year).

In value terms, India ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations exports from the UK, comprising 29% of total exports. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Brazil (X tons), China (X tons) and Norway (X tons) were the main suppliers of artificial and colloidal graphite imports to the UK, with a combined 37% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Belgium, Germany, Ukraine, the United States, Russia, Poland, Austria, India and South Africa, which together accounted for a further 56%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +203.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
