As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, fungicide and bactericide exports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) were the main destinations of fungicide and bactericide exports from the UK, together accounting for 31% of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Germany, Ukraine, Portugal, Belgium, Hungary and Poland, which together accounted for a further 43%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +20.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the key foreign market for fungicides, bactericides and seed treatments exports from the UK, comprising 20% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with an 8.1% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Brazil amounted to -10.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-6.4% per year) and the Netherlands (-0.3% per year).

In 2021, the average fungicide and bactericide export price amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 3.4%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the UK
In 2021, overseas purchases of fungicides, bactericides and seed treatments decreased by -37.3% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, fungicide and bactericide imports dropped dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of fungicide and bactericide imports to the UK, together accounting for 54% of total imports. The Netherlands, India, Finland, Hungary, China, Belgium, Hong Kong SAR and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Finland (with a CAGR of +165.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Spain ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest fungicide and bactericide suppliers to the UK, with a combined 69% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Hungary, China, India, Belgium, Hong Kong SAR, Italy, the Netherlands and Finland, which together accounted for a further 27%.
Among the main suppliers, Finland, with a CAGR of +136.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average fungicide and bactericide import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -15.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 17%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
