Inulin Market Size in the UK
The UK inulin market amounted to $X in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible reduction. Inulin consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then declined notably in the following year.
In value terms, inulin exports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 65%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Ireland (X tons) was the main destination for inulin exports from the UK, with a 46% share of total exports. Moreover, inulin exports to Ireland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Ireland totaled -5.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+77.8% per year) and Germany (+42.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for inulin exported from the UK were Ireland ($X), Spain ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 70% of total exports.
Spain, with a CAGR of +70.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average inulin export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, inulin export price increased by +57.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 30%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Inulin Imports
Imports into the UK
After seven years of growth, supplies from abroad of inulin decreased by -53.8% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, inulin imports reduced notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Israel (X tons) were the main suppliers of inulin imports to the UK, together comprising 87% of total imports. These countries were followed by Ireland, China and India, which together accounted for a further 11%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +573.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest inulin suppliers to the UK were Belgium ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Ireland ($X), together comprising 89% of total imports. China, Israel and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.8%.
India, with a CAGR of +220.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average inulin import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 48% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+20.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
