The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dry peas exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 54%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
China (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of dry peas exports from the UK, together comprising 54% of total exports. These countries were followed by Norway, Malaysia, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Egypt and the United States, which together accounted for a further 32%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +45.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Japan ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for dry peas exported from the UK worldwide, with a combined 53% share of total exports. Ireland, Malaysia, Norway, Belgium, Germany, Egypt and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Belgium, with a CAGR of +37.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average dry peas export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 5.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 72%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+13.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the UK
In 2021, supplies from abroad of peas (dry) decreased by -52% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 183% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dry peas imports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 70%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest dry peas supplier to the UK, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, dry peas imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), threefold. Ukraine (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Russia stood at +12.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-6.6% per year) and Ukraine (-20.2% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dry peas to the UK, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Ukraine, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Russia totaled +18.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-10.8% per year) and Ukraine (-18.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average dry peas import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 44% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
