The Netherlands (X tons), Ireland (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of vegetable product exports from the UK, with a combined 49% share of total exports. Poland, Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +65.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for vegetable product exported from the UK were the Netherlands ($X), the United States ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 44% share of total exports. The average vegetable product export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 8.8%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (-1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of vegetable products decreased by -31.3% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, vegetable product imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Uganda (X tons), France (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) were the main suppliers of vegetable product imports to the UK, together accounting for 34% of total imports. China, Spain, Germany, Poland, India, Belgium, Egypt, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Nigeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 48%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +109.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest vegetable product suppliers to the UK were China ($X), South Africa ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 34% share of total imports.
South Africa, with a CAGR of +86.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average vegetable product import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 27% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
