Honey Market Size in Tanzania

The United States (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of honey exports from Tanzania, with a combined 50% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kenya (with a CAGR of +284.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for honey exported from Tanzania were Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Ireland ($X), with a combined 60% share of total exports. The Czech Republic, the United Arab Emirates, Kenya and Uganda lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.

Kenya, with a CAGR of +325.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average honey export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 75% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a modest expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Uganda ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ireland (+20.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Honey Imports

Imports into Tanzania

Honey imports into Tanzania contracted notably to X tons in 2022, shrinking by -75.2% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 346%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, honey imports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 437%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

The UK (X tons), Australia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of honey imports to Tanzania, with a combined 57% share of total imports. Romania, Spain, China and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +58.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Australia ($X) appeared to be the largest honey suppliers to Tanzania, together comprising 71% of total imports.
