Walnut Market Size in the U.S.

The U.S. walnut market shrank slightly to $X in 2021, waning by -4.4% against the previous year. The average walnut export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 8.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of walnuts increased by 199% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 972% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +38.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average walnut import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -47.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 91% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
