In 2021, imports of breakfast cereals into Uruguay was estimated at X tons, with an increase of 3.8% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Chile (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Argentina was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+15.8% per year) and Chile (-19.2% per year).
In value terms, Argentina ($X) constituted the largest supplier of breakfast cereal to Uruguay, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by Chile, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Argentina totaled -2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+9.9% per year) and Chile (-12.4% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 30%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the price for Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
