In 2021, overseas purchases of watches increased by 139% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports posted strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, watch imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +32.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. In 2021, China (X units) was the main supplier of watch to Uruguay, with a 95% share of total imports. It was followed by Hong Kong SAR (X units), with a 0.9% share of total imports.
