In 2021, overseas shipments of air conditioning machines decreased by -43% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 55%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, air conditioning machine exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Azerbaijan (X units) was the main destination for air conditioning machine exports from Uzbekistan, with a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, air conditioning machine exports to Azerbaijan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tajikistan (X units), twofold. Russia (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.7% share.

From 2015 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Azerbaijan totaled +18.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tajikistan (-4.6% per year) and Russia (+95.6% per year).

In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X) remains the key foreign market for air conditioning machine exports from Uzbekistan, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tajikistan ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with a 7.3% share.

From 2015 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Azerbaijan totaled +33.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tajikistan (+11.8% per year) and Russia (+117.2% per year).

In 2021, the average air conditioning machine export price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 191% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a significant increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Tajikistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of air conditioning machines decreased by -27.7% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 97% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2020, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, air conditioning machine imports rose notably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2017 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of air conditioning machine to Uzbekistan, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, air conditioning machine imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X units), eightfold. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
