Beer Market Size in Uzbekistan

The Uzbek beer market expanded remarkably to $X in 2022, picking up by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. In 2022, overseas shipments of beer were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. In general, exports saw significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 208,106% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, beer exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 160,785%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Russia (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) were the main destinations of beer exports from Uzbekistan.

Imports into Uzbekistan

In 2022, overseas purchases of beer increased by 52% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, beer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of beer imports to Uzbekistan, together accounting for 89% of total imports. Georgia, Belgium, Mexico and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 8.5%.

From 2017 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Georgia (with a CAGR of +61.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of beer to Uzbekistan, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.3% share.

Over the period under review, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2017 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Georgia (+35.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
