Bottled Water Market Size in Uzbekistan

The Uzbek bottled water market expanded slightly to $X in 2022, increasing by 2.7% against the previous year. In 2022, overseas shipments of bottled waters were finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bottled water exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 376% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons) was the main destination for bottled water exports from Uzbekistan, with a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, bottled water exports to Kazakhstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kyrgyzstan (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Russia (X tons), with a 7.6% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kazakhstan totaled -21.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+16.4% per year) and Russia (+64.3% per year).

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for bottled waters exports from Uzbekistan, comprising 211% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 60% share of total exports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 29% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Kazakhstan amounted to -5.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+64.2% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+20.7% per year).

The average bottled water export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -84.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 473% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+233.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uzbekistan

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of bottled waters, when their volume decreased by -29.1% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 406%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, bottled water imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 348% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Georgia (X tons) was the main supplier of bottled water to Uzbekistan, with a 94% share of total imports. Moreover, bottled water imports from Georgia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Kazakhstan (X tons), with a 14% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Georgia totaled +56.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+111.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (+139.1% per year).

In value terms, Georgia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bottled waters to Uzbekistan, comprising 116% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 7.5% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Georgia stood at +44.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+89.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (+129.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average bottled water import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, faced a deep slump. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
