Carbides Market Size in Uzbekistan

The Uzbek carbides market dropped modestly to $X in 2022, approximately equating the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the market value increased by 8.9%. Carbides consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 818%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Kyrgyzstan (X tons) was the main destination for carbides exports from Uzbekistan, with a approx. 100% share of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, carbides imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2017 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +84.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In 2022, Kazakhstan (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of carbides to Uzbekistan, accounting for a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, carbides imports from Kazakhstan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iran (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Russia (X tons), with a 2.1% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Kazakhstan was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iran (0.0% per year) and Russia (+12.1% per year).

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of carbides to Uzbekistan, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 5.2% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 3.9% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Kazakhstan stood at +5.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+28.6% per year) and China (-17.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average carbides import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -16.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 94%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+56.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
