The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, copper pipe and fitting exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 2,788% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for copper pipe and fitting exports from Uzbekistan, accounting for a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, copper pipe and fitting exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), fourfold. Belarus (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Turkey amounted to +104.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+254.7% per year) and Belarus (+71.4% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the key foreign market for copper tubes, pipes and fitting exports from Uzbekistan, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 1.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Turkey stood at +114.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (+365.0% per year) and Belarus (+88.7% per year).

In 2021, the average copper pipe and fitting export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 70% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Bulgaria ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) and Turkey ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+31.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uzbekistan

In 2021, supplies from abroad of copper tubes, pipes and fitting decreased by -21.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after eight years of growth. In general, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 825%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, copper pipe and fitting imports amounted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 349% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of copper pipe and fitting to Uzbekistan, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, copper pipe and fitting imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), twofold. Ukraine (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +10.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+104.6% per year) and Ukraine (+67.9% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the largest copper pipe and fitting suppliers to Uzbekistan, together comprising 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 13%.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +117.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average copper pipe and fitting import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 42% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 60% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
