In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in the Uzbek nail and bolt market, when its value decreased by -4.6% to $X. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by +0.8% against 2017 indices. Exports from Uzbekistan

For the fifth year in a row, Uzbekistan recorded growth in overseas shipments of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts, which increased by 103% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 186% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, nail and bolt exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed significant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) were the main destinations of nail and bolt exports from Uzbekistan, together accounting for 97% of total exports.

From 2017 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +479.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tajikistan ($X), Kyrgyzstan ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for nail and bolt exported from Uzbekistan worldwide, together accounting for 92% of total exports.

Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +398.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average nail and bolt export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+86.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uzbekistan

In 2021, purchases abroad of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts decreased by -2.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2017 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.0% over the last four years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -18.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 63%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, nail and bolt imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of nail and bolt to Uzbekistan, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, nail and bolt imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X tons), with a 13% share.

From 2017 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +15.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+12.4% per year) and Turkey (+42.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Turkey ($X) and South Korea ($X) constituted the largest nail and bolt suppliers to Uzbekistan, together accounting for 69% of total imports.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +47.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average nail and bolt import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 11% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated prominent growth from 2017 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last four-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, nail and bolt import price increased by +60.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 26%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the price for Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
