Pistachio Market Size in Uzbekistan

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Uzbek pistachio market, when its value decreased by -32.3% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed a tangible expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

Pistachio Production in Uzbekistan

In value terms, pistachio production fell sharply to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 483%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

The average yield of pistachios in Uzbekistan contracted modestly to X kg per ha in 2022, standing approx. at the year before. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. In 2022, the amount of pistachios exported from Uzbekistan contracted markedly to X tons, with a decrease of -84.8% compared with 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 1,208% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, pistachio exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 1,770% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) were the main destinations of pistachio exports from Uzbekistan, together comprising 93% of total exports.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of 0.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X), Turkey ($X) and Iraq ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for pistachio exported from Uzbekistan worldwide, together comprising 90% of total exports.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+164.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Uzbekistan

Pistachio imports into Uzbekistan fell rapidly to X tons in 2022, dropping by -47.8% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 363% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, pistachio imports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 357% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Kyrgyzstan (X tons) constituted the largest pistachio supplier to Uzbekistan, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, pistachio imports from Kyrgyzstan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), twofold. Iran (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Kyrgyzstan amounted to +359.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+138.3% per year) and Iran (+9.0% per year).

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Iran ($X) and Kyrgyzstan ($X) constituted the largest pistachio suppliers to Uzbekistan, together accounting for 87% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +358.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average pistachio import price amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a abrupt curtailment. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
