Plastic Bag Market Size in Uzbekistan

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 220%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, plastic bag exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 204% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic bag exports from Uzbekistan, together comprising 98% of total exports.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +87.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for plastic bag exported from Uzbekistan were Kyrgyzstan ($X), Tajikistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X), together accounting for 97% of total exports.

For the third year in a row, Uzbekistan recorded growth in supplies from abroad of plastic sacks and bags, which increased by 49% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2017 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.8% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic bag imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2017 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.0% against 2017 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest plastic bag supplier to Uzbekistan, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic bag imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Russia (X tons), with a 3.7% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +12.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+28.9% per year) and Russia (-4.6% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of plastic sacks and bags to Uzbekistan, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 13% share.

From 2017 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +9.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+16.1% per year) and Russia (+14.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average plastic bag import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 39%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
