Rice Market Size in Uzbekistan

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 1,356%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, rice exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 553% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Afghanistan (X tons) was the main destination for rice exports from Uzbekistan, accounting for a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, rice exports to Afghanistan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Saudi Arabia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X tons), with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Afghanistan amounted to -19.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+10.6% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+32.5% per year).

In 2021, the average rice export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -13.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 433% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Tajikistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Uzbekistan

Rice imports into Uzbekistan soared to X tons in 2021, increasing by 65% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 5,920%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, rice imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 6,612%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) were the main suppliers of rice imports to Uzbekistan, with a combined 72% share of total imports. Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, the United States and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +2,389.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, rice import price increased by +24.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 29%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
